CONTEXT
A field that keeps its differences
The Black Bird gives each material a distinct working body. Research notes carry source-bearing prose. Mapping notes condense charged relations into local textual surfaces. Recurring things receive stable addresses, while names and citations preserve routes of return.
These distinctions let research and poetry remain in contact without asking one to borrow the authority of the other. The field makes contact spatial; the Reader gives one object time; Route records a partial movement through the work.
RESEARCH ANNEX
Speculative Indices v1.0
The work's first research annex, Speculative Indices for a Research-Field (2026), counts what the field already holds. Two matrices carry the calculation. The first records which of the eighteen Field Objects appear in each of the four source-bearing Research Note Objects; the second records which Field Objects take part in each of the twelve Relation Objects. Three index families follow: Object Incidence, how often an object recurs across the research notes; Relational Thickness, how often two objects share a note or a relation; and Mediational Incidence, how many relations hold an object.
The indices give recurrence and mediation a small surface, so a reader can return to the field knowing where it has already thickened. Their first finding is a difference the graph alone does not show. Black Bird and Corpse each appear in all four research notes, but nine of the twelve relations hold Corpse and eight hold Black Bird: the object that opens the work and the densest relation-body are not the same.
